So.. to put an end to the RAM question... Short answer: No, is not upgradable. Long answer: Was told by sales person upon purchase that it was. Found HP specs sheet on this link which stated "not user accessible". Called HP and after providing model and S/N he said yes, it has 2 slots and max is 16gb. Took to Geek Squad to do the honors of unboxing and finding out... And no memory slots. So ended up returning it. Also found a video for a SIMILAR model from HP where they tear it all down... No memory banks. https://youtu.be/VVOlVGkiiiU Hope this helps.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It's not upgradeable. Don't know why hp team says it supports optane and upgradeable ram So much misguidance and ultimately people had to return the products. Better educate the hp team members of the product, before they pen down something.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I own the customizable version of this HP notebook. Let me try to answer some valid questions based on my experience. The OPTANE memory is no longer a separate memory module, it's incorporated on the m.2 NVME SSD stick. This means the OPTANE memory is shared the NVME bus with the SSD; previously with separate modules they were each on their own NVME bus. (READ: all OPTANE memory is not created equal anymore) HP offers a 256gGB SSD with and without 16GB OPTANE, they offer 512GB with and without 32GB OPTANE and they offer 1TB without OPTANE only (Currently, although Intel makes a 1TB with OPTANE. However OPTANE memory acts as a cache for the SSD (and is deducted from the size), and it uses 1/2 of the available bandwidth, so it may or may not speed up your disk operations. The fastest gen 3 NVME drives are substantially faster than the INTEL OPTANE+SSD drive and consume substantially less power. This notebook can be carefully opened (with appropriate pry tools) (Remove the battery strap before making any changes!!) to upgrade the M.2 nvme SSD drive and the 2 SODIM memory cards (DDR4 3200mhz). I tried to upgrade to 64GB memory (2x32GB) and failed to get the system to boot, but it booted fine with a single 32 GB sodimm in either slot and it booted with 8GB+32GB installed, I will soon try 16GB+32GB, BUT I don't know if it will work. I don't know why 2x32Gb does not work, Intel's spec on the processor says it supported, so it must be a HP BIOS limitation. But the fact that you don't need the same size SODIMMs is good to know when upgrading, I'm running with DDR4 3200 as specked/shipped by HP in this notebook. Their memory was Samsung CL22, I'm running fine with CL18. I've installed a 2Tb Sabrent Rocket SSD, (probably the fastest v3 SSD made) it boots in 1/2 the time the 512Gb+32Gb OPTANE drive did.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.RAM not upgradeable. Does NOT have optane. Check out docs at support.hp.com
