“I hear this computer (from other reviews) fan never shuts off or is always running - that concerns me in that does it overheat?”

Yeah, mine would be burning my lap up all the time if I didn't have a "lap desk." I don't notice the fan as much as the heat, and the battery life ain't what they say it is unless they are talkng about running nothing but the home screen for 13 hours.
