Instant Ink is a subscription service from HP. The ink/toner cartridges are shipped to you automatically whenever you are running low. So you never have to order ink again!! The instant ink cartridges will not work in your printer unless you are subscribed to this service. Otherwise, you’d have to buy store bought ink. There are different plans based on your printing needs (how many pages you print a month).
