Hello and thank you for the question on the HP 4001dw! This model is designed to work with legal paper and can have up to three trays, though it will come with two (the flip down tray and the pull out drawer number two). When adjusted to house legal paper, drawer two (or the optional third drawer) will extend from the back of the machine, but either drawer two or three may be used with just legal paper.
