Good question. That is true. This printer is only for the instant ink service. You cannot put regular cartridges in it. If you wish to purchase this printer without Instant Ink, you can get the OfficeJet 5740. It is the same exact printer without the required Instant Ink service. The 5740 is still eligible for Instant Ink service. I hope this helps.
