Good question. Yes, this is an Instant Ink printer. If you wish to use this printer without Instant Ink, I suggest you purchase the HP OfficeJet 5740. It is the same exact printer as this except that it doesn't come with $120 Instant Ink credit like this printer does. I hope this helps.
