If you do not use the printer for long periods at a time the ink may become dry, If you are not going to use the printer for a long period of time HP recommends taking the ink cartridge out of the printer and putting them in a plastic bad until you need them again that way is does not clog the nozzles.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.check their website under printers or call them, I had a bad printhead with mine and had to be shipped a new one......they do tell you how to clean the heads if needed....
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No, but if the printer is reading a message ( Problem with printhead) with an error code....the printer is toasted and you have to call HP to get it replaced, or Best Buy if you bought the warranty.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I don't believe that removing the ink cartridges from the printer will help much with this particular printer, as the actual ink jet nozzles are part of the print carriage mechanism and do not come out when you remove the ink cartridges. The ink cartridges contain only the sponge that holds the ink and also a small memory chip that retains information about how much the printer has been used (for HP product improvement purposes, according to their information). I think that the printer automatically cleans the ink jets before the first print job is started.
