Good question. This printer is brand new and was just released this summer. The printer has a 4 ink cartridge system. You will be able to print pictures with this printer. I hope this helps.

I'm unsure of length of time on market, however I've owned this model for over 6 months now & this is the FIRST printer (of the 8-10 I've purchased in my life) That I've EVER been TRULY HAPPY with! The HP Instant Ink Program is fantastic & saves a ton of $$ if you print alot... I use mine pretty much daily for one thing or another. I also print pics of my 17 yr old & 2 yr old son's from it constantly. It is SIMPLE to use- the touchscreen will navigate you easily. I use various sizes & types of photo papers and my family members think I pay to have them printed ! The speed is quite impressive compared to the 5-6 other models I literally tried out in store w/ pic of my son & some photo papers! I'm not sure if I've helped or not, good luck ! -M
