“does this printer only work with genuine HP print cartridges?”

• Yes as they now have computer chips in the cartridges. Target does have official hp ink cartridges for less but sometimes the chip doesnt register properly and i have had to get a new one. Sams club a good price on the cartridges. T

• Thank you for the question. The OfficeJet Pro 6978 will work with other branded cartridges, albeit with less quality because HP's inks use a proprietary formula that cannot be duplicated. Other cartridges also may not be eco-friendly. like those manufactured by HP.
