With this model printer HP has an instant ink program that is very reasonable, there are three different plans and they are all described at hpinstajtink.com , check it out and you will be very surprised. The printer is awesome and I never have to worry about ink anymore. We print a lot of pictures and do a lot of copying and scanning. We are very happy and you always have a fresh set of ink cartridges to put in. The printer tells hp when you put in your back up cartridges and they send out a new set right then.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Toner for Laser printers is usually always cheaper. However, HPs new Ink subscription service is great! You choose a plan and pay a monthly fee. You can print up to the number of pages you choose for your plan and HP sends you ink at no extra charge whenever your ink runs low. 50 page per month plan is $2.99, 100 pages is $4.99, and $300 pages is 9.99. Even if you are printing photos or full color documents, as long as you stay within your page count all you pay is the monthly fee. Check it out! https://instantink.hpconnected.com/us/en

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have never had a laser printer so can't compare on that end. I have not bought ink yet but looks like about $20 a color, a bit more for black. You can get them in packs or individually. That's the nice thing with this printer ( also my pervious one) each color ink cartridge can be replaced as needed. Hard to say cost per page since I print sporadically and do do not really know how many pages I get per cartridge. Also depends on what you are printing ( photos, graphics, text) and the print quality. If you print a lot HP has a program where it seems like the printer pre-orders ink when the levels are low. You pay a monthly fee for this service. It did not suit me but you may want to look into it to see if it seems reasonable for you. Good luck.
