“My HP Officejet Pro 8500 would refuse to scan if out of any type of ink (CMY or black). This made it useless. Does this scanner work if out of ink? If it does not scan when out of ink, what scanners & printers do? Thanks”

• I agree that must be some type of programming flaw. Maybe the scanner is set to produce a report or a hard copy after scanning which would require ink.

• You would need a model which will allow you to remove the empty ink and still use the printer. The HP OfficeJet 5255 would work well for that.
