• I will not print if the cartridges are not installed. It should print in black if the color cartridges are empty. It is best to have new color cartridges installed.

• This printer will require all cartridges to have ink and be present in the unit to print. You can use draft printing to lower the amount of ink it uses and there is a black printing option, but it still has to remove some of the previous ink from the lines. If not it creates a risk on ink drying up in the print head which can damage the print head and stop it from printing altogether.
