“I set up my 9015 this morning. While it printed the alignment page (literally the first page) it said that Y and M were out of ink and the display is stuck on that screen. Do I have a bad machine or does the printer ship with empty cartridges?”

Printer ships with ink cartridges that you have to install yourself. Make sure they were in the box with the printer. Should be three color and one black cartridges. As for the display, you may want to power off, wait 30 seconds and turn it back on. If it still doesn't work I'd contact Best Buy and let them know.
