To answer the question: No. You can’t scan American legal (14”) on the glass. Obviously almost every printer does it through the feeder, but that’s not what you asked.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.YES, you can scan legal paper WITH THE ADF (Automatic Document Feeder). The flatbed is not that large, but you can "set"/choose legal paper using the HP scanning software and it would scan legal size. ADF: 8.5 x 14 in Maximum; 5 x 5 in Minimum Flatbed: 8.5 x 11.7 in.

So, if you can print legal documents, you should be able to scan them too. I recommend you go on line to the HP Support site and download the PDF users manual if you haven't already.
