There is a common problem with the power supply. If a fault occurs on the monitor pin, it will cause the issue you describe. I am currently dealing with HP support on this, and they will make you go through a litany of needless steps, but if you stand your ground, they will eventually replace the power supply and you'll be fine. Alternatively, you can purchase a new one on eBay or such if you're out of warranty,
