It's rated at 400 nits, which is brighter than a typical screen. If you've got the brightness maxed out and you're doing a lot of things with very dark elements, try turning the contrast down slightly. That will brighten the dark elements and make them easier to see. If that doesn't work, your next option would be to directly contact the HP support team to see if they have any suggestions.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I had the same problem. If you have HDR turned on, you won't be able to adjust the brightness. To adjust the brightness, press the button, (on the bottom, right side of the monitor next to the on/off button). The menu will then show, (in a square box) the various adjustments, including adjusting the brightness level. When I had HDR turned on, the screen was somewhat bright, but only at 54 percent brightness. It was also grayed out so I couldn't adjust the brightness past 54 percent. Once I turned off HDR, it unlocked the default settings, so I could adjust the screen the way I liked the settings. That included increasing the brightness level.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If you have HDR enabled in the settings menu of Windows then not only will the screen be more dull and dim brightness wise but you will also not be able to change the settings on the monitor itself as the settings will have been locked by the operating system.
