I had the same issue. I've never used a displayport cable before, so (for this cable it has a ridge at the end). You must press the ridge portion when inserting and removing. If you don't press it, sometimes it doesn't connect properly, and your get the message, " not active". The ridge gives a sturdy connection so it doesn't come off or loosen. I think that's good, since the cable is a little heavier than standard cables. Another question I had trouble finding was the power consumption. It uses more power when playing at the highest refresh rate. (83.6 watts compared to others at 40 watts). I wonder why HP doesn't display that? No all people are that tech savvy, like myself.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Plug the monitor directly into the graphics card port. I personally Use a display port cable and my graphics card port is located at the rear of the pc in the middle area. I hope this helps. Enjoy.

If the computer is off or in sleep mode, you may receive that message. Is it on when you receive the message? Are you using an adapter? Are you using the original cable that came with the monitor? Unfortunately, this needs to be a 2-way conversation and this forum can't troubleshoot for you. But HP Support can. Please reach out to them at Support.HP.com for chat, or call 800-474-6836 .
