Thank you for your question about connector types! Any brand of monitor will work with any computer. For the best video performance, the best connector is a DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable. HDMI has a much slower throughput than DisplayPort.

What you do with/how you use your computer should determine whether you buy this monitor or not. The main difference between using HDMI and DisplayPort, as I've seen, is the bump in refresh rate (from a cap of 144Hz with HDMI 2.0 to the full 240Hz with HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort). Depending on what your computer can manage, you're looking at a couple of different choices here. When you say "I'm using a cable that fits both.", in reference to the computer only having a DP input and the monitor only having an HDMI input, I'm assuming you mean to say that you have a DisplayPort to HDMI cable. In that case, I am not entirely sure how that affects the refresh rate, but it should have no effect on the resolution. In that case, I would say to stick with what you have instead of getting this monitor. In the other case, using that cable hinders your monitor's ability to grab the highest resolution and refresh rate from your computer, which limits the peak quality/performance that you can get. Even then, I would have to estimate that the difference is not significant, possibly being a matter of only getting to use 144Hz instead of 165Hz, or something to that degree. If you're willing to spend the money (which I certainly would be specifically right now since it's on sale) then I would totally spring for this monitor, but not without considering everything else that comes with it. Make absolutely certain that not only are you benefitting from native DisplayPort support to be able to use a standard DP cable instead of DP-HDMI, but that you are also making good use of the other practical benefits that this monitor will allow you to have, given what power your computer can afford. Hope this helps!
