You can change what happens when the lid is raised in the system BIOS. You can access the BIOS by continuously tapping the ESC key during boot-up and then press the F10 key when prompted. The setting you want can be found under the Boot Options tab.

Please try again later.I cannot edit my previous answer but I checked the Settings and it appears that there is no option to select what the laptop does when the lid opens, only when it closes. However, I cannot think of any reason why someone would want to just open the lid without the laptop powering up. Perhaps that's why it always turns on when you open it.
