The HP Pavilion object is just a plastic placeholder. If you wanted additional hard drive storage, you can easily remove that black plastic piece and use the silver metal bracket to mount a SSD (or slower HDD, depending on budget) 2.5" SATA drive, 7mm. For me, I added a Samsung SSD 860 EVO 1TB; it was a very easy installation. And yes correct, the Operating System is on the M.2 NVMe stick.
