“I just purchased this HP a week ago and this morning I had a very difficult time getting it to turn on. Do you just tap the power button or are you supposed to hold the button down until the logo appears? Is it supposed to shut itself off automatically?”

Just touch the on button and release. You will notice the light, on the botton, comes on very quickly. The computer goes to sleep but to turn it completely, you need to click on the windows button on the lower left of the screen. It will show the power button and you can turn it off from there.
