“Silly question perhaps, but does one need external speakers for this PC by way of either monitor w/built-in speaker or simply external speakers? The built-in surround sound has me a bit confused on what's needed here if anything? Thanks.”

Thank you for the question. The Pavilion Desktop does not have internal speakers. You will need to connect speakers for audio (or connect a monitor with speakers), at which time you'll be able to use the surround sound feature.
