• Hello, this tower does not come with an onboard optical drive but gives you the bay opening and door in order to add one if that is your desire. Thank you for being an HP customer!

• I do not think this slot is for opening and installing a CD Rom. You can, however, purchase an external CD Rom with a USB cable to plug into one of your ports. This will serve the same purpose and you can remove it when not in use. Cost is around $40. I asked this same question before I purchased my computer and this is what I was told Hope this helps.

• This unit does not come with a cd drive. The slot you see is in case you want to add one but it needs to be one that fits
