You could consider using a device such as a plugable Dual Monitor Docking Station. It uses a USB 3. connector to the computer and then allows you to operate two monitors. One monitor would be HDMI and other would connect vi DVI/VGA. You would also gain a number of additional ports. Your level of knowledge "avid-user" would easily handle the set-up.

Ussually video cards needs to be connected to the power supply and probably you need to ugrade your existing power supply to meet power requirements. Probably you need help from a proffesional

I have this system with the HP - 23" IPS LED HD Monitor - Natural silver and the whole installation process was super EASY! it was just a matter of hooking up 2 inputs into both the desktop tower and monitor. I am sure an additional monitor added wouldn't cause difficulty in the set up process. I highly recommend this desktop tower.
