“What does the manufacturer's warranty cover for this? I don't want to spend $200 on a protection plan but I also want to make sure I'm protected in case it is a lemon”

The HP warranty policy is ridiculous. If it breaks you have to ship it to HP to get it fixed. It takes 2-3 weeks before you will get it back. The fan bearings went out 3 weeks after I bought it. I had to buy a new computer to use so I can send it in to get fixed because I can't take 2 weeks off work while I wait for it. The $200 protection plan won't get you much either. Best Buy couldn't fix it quickly either, they said I would have to drop it off at a store so they could send it to their repair facility in another state.
