Not much better for the price
|Posted .I was debating between the purchase of the HP Envy x360 (15M-BP012DX), the Lenovo Yoga 720 (81C3000LUS) and this laptop. I passed on the Envy, due to the old style HDD. The Lenovo is 13.3" compared to this 14", has 256gb SSD, and same processor and RAM, but $100 costlier. I'm not worried about storage, as I have an external HD and a desktop for long term storage. The first unit I purchased had a bit of light bleed in the top left edge. I brought it back, checked out the floor model and it had it in the same spot. The one I'm using now does not have it. I'd suggest checking your screen against a black background to be sure. This laptop is fast, screen is beautiful and the touch screen works perfectly. I haven't had it long enough to do much with it, but I'm only using it for browsing and word processing. For the price, I think this is the laptop you want. I feel quite comfortable typing with the keyboard and the touchpad seems precise. Props to Best Buy for the easy exchange. One touch brightness/volume/keyboard light adjustment, loud clear speakers, everything about this is fast. 14" is a perfect size for me. Go see this at your local store and it should be worth your consideration.

Great laptop for college student
|Posted .Owned for more than 2 years when reviewed.Features
Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5I have had this laptop for almost 2.5 years now and I love it. TOUCH SCREEN! Screen flips around to be used as a tablet too! The only thing I can say that is negative is that the battery does not last long. And if you have it running on high performance, forget it. I am obsessed with the look of the laptop. The gold color is gorgeous and different. Much better than silver, or ugly grey and black. The keyboard of the laptop is silver though. I have the matching wireless gold HP mouse which I also love. Oh, it doesn’t have a CD drive, which really stinks!

Value - Performance and cost
|Posted .No issues with the laptop, other than odd issue with google Chrome not working, uninstall, reinstall still no go. I have other windows 10 devices, no issues, not sure what the variable is. Boots fast, does generate more heat than I am used to (out the vents on left side. Have issues with casting to miracast TV's. (I am an IT tech for years) really haven't had time to troubleshoot further. (last thing I want to do after all day doing the same at work). Unit seems sturdy, hope so!

Major issue with this laptop
|Posted .After a previous fan noise issue, the 'power button' now does not work. It is undependable. I paid $750 for 2 years ago and now after many attempts to turn the computer on, it finally powers on, but I have to keep it plugged in and turned on in order to use it. Otherwise I risk of not getting it to power on again when I need it. I spent much time with Best Buy and now HP trying to get it resolved and have been told by HP that I would need to pay up to $374 to have it fixed. My solid state lightweight laptop is now a stationary desktop computer. I will have to buy a new laptop, one I can take with me.

Great, but not durable
Posted .Fell in love with the laptop, until it slid off my bed, IN ITS CASE, and the screen cracked. Shouldn't be so easily breakable. And I was given no affordable options to fix it. I was told to live with the cracked screen or buy a new laptop. At $700 it should be able to sustain a small fall and not shatter. I tried contacting HP and got the run around from them.

Budget Powerhouse - Best performance value
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendLet me start this review by saying I work in technology and consider myself very versed when it comes to computers. With that said, I embarked in a search for a new laptop computer that would be versatile to use for travel and around the house. The main purpose was for running networking tools, consoling to network devices, etc. The other purpose, was for media consumption while on the go....mostly youtube and other streaming services. My search took me first to buy the Dell Inspiron 7000 series with an 8th gen Core i7 16 Gigs of RAm and 256 SSD. To my surprise that computer overheated constantly, running fans at full speed most of the time. It was also experiencing thermal throttling and could not even stream a 4k video properly. I returned it. Then I saw an open box Asus 14 inch with 8 gig of RAM, 8th Gen Core i5 and a 1 TB Hard Drive. That laptop was good, but the problem was that the RAM was soldered into the main board and could not be upgraded. Also the lack of an SSD made that computer a little too slow. It was very inexpensive, but still not working at my expectations. So, I returned it. I did not want to waste more time and decided to buy the top of the line HP Spectre x360 13.3 inch with an 8th Gen Core i7, 16 Gig RAM and 512 PCIe SSD. To my surprise, this laptop suffered from worse temperature issues than the original Dell I purchased. The little, beautiful HP spectre kept getting supper hot even when placed on my granite counter top. Since it was a very expensive laptop, I decided I had to return it. I could not believe I had purchased laptops going from under 600 dollars to over 1,400 and still did not find the right candidate. Then, I saw that Best Buy lowered the price on this HP Pavilion x360 14 inch by $100. It was a sub $700 with most of the features I wanted. The only dowside was 8 Gig of RAm instead of 16, but...according to HPs service manual. upgrading in the future is doable. So I bough it.....One word...EXCELLENT. It works fantastic with everything I throw at it. The 1080P screen has nice colors and contrast, design is beautiful, has an SSD and an 8th gen core i5. This laptop is a little bigger than the HP Spectre x360 I had, but it handles temperatures like a champ. Also, it has most ports you would want. The Spectre had Thunderbolt 3, but you would need dongles for everything. This pavilion has all the ports I need like HDMI, USB-C, card reader, etc. Performance is actually better than the spectre as it does not suffer from thermal throttling and can maintain higher clock speeds on the core i5 that other laptops with core i7s. Another thing. I found the included 8 Gigs of RAM are in one memory slot only....which means you can eventually get another 8 Gigs and put it on the available second slot which is empty. However, keep in mind that upgrading RAM would require a very detailed disassembly not recommended for everyone. Battery is pretty good too for the price point. Even though this laptop has a below average battery size, it manages to use it very well. I got about 4.5 hours of streaming amazon prime with my display very close to max brightness. I can't believe how great this laptop is at this price point....remarkable. Buy with confidence.

Good quality for the price
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendThis computer feels a lot more solidly built than some of the other ones I looked at. I love silver color. Having the option for touch screen is also really nice in a laptop. I probably would have given this computer 5 stars but the touchpad is not very easy to use. I usually use a mouse anyways, so it doesn't bother me much, but if I don't have my mouse I usually end up using the touch screen more than the touchpad. I like the face recognition feature as well. Another downside is that it does not have a CD drive, although I don't know how often I would use it. All around a good computer so far.

Good laptop for general and small office use.
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI replaced my dinosaur 2008 Toshiba laptop with this HP Pavilionx360. The Best Buy rep listened to my needs and wants and we discussed the value of a solid state drive. This model is lightweight, yet has a nice sized screen for working and using the programs comprising Microsoft Office. The keyboard is easy to use and adjustable for keystroking style and preference. Battery life exceeds my expectations; I can expect it to last a full 9-10 hours when not using a lot of graphics programs. Good value for the price.
Q: QuestionIs the loud fan noise consistently a problem for this computer? I cannot stand the loud fan noise. I am wondering if I exchange it for the same model if I will continue to have the same problem or if I would be better off exchanging for a different model?
Asked by Sarah.
- A:Answer Sincerely, the HP Pavilion is the worst laptop that I have ever seen in my professional career, I am a computer engineer and worked for the most well-known IT companies in the world (included Compaq/Hp) and never, I say never found any worst laptop quality than this one. Fan noise is heavy, laptop parts are pure plastic, keyboard keys move out after several months, touchpad mouse does not run nice as in other Dell or ASUS laptops... But specially FAN NOISE is amazing, I dissambled anc cleaned everything, (not any dust at all since the laptop was brand new), every few minutes a big noise like an airplane taking off, I installed all latest BIOS, drivers,... but the same.. I think Hp works hard to remove bad comments or links to any wrong review from the searchers in the web... No solution yet, unless you buy Dell...

Q: QuestionWhat is the largest SSD drive that can be installed on this computer?
Asked by Mimi.
- A:Answer Hi Mimi, According to the service guide on the HP Support website, I believe that the largest SSD drive supported is a 512-GB, M.2 SATA solid-state drive with TLC; Spare Part Number 923685-001. Here is a link to the service guide.......http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05474219.

Q: QuestionWhat does the manufacturer's warranty cover for this? I don't want to spend $200 on a protection plan but I also want to make sure I'm protected in case it is a lemon
Asked by Bwb.
- A:Answer The HP warranty policy is ridiculous. If it breaks you have to ship it to HP to get it fixed. It takes 2-3 weeks before you will get it back. The fan bearings went out 3 weeks after I bought it. I had to buy a new computer to use so I can send it in to get fixed because I can't take 2 weeks off work while I wait for it. The $200 protection plan won't get you much either. Best Buy couldn't fix it quickly either, they said I would have to drop it off at a store so they could send it to their repair facility in another state.
