• The base clock is 2.5 gigahertz. The operating system has little to no effect on clock speeds.

• The processor has a "base speed" of 2.4 GHz. Think of that like the idle speed of a car engine. As the workload increases, the processor can speed itself up to a maximum of 4.5 GHz.
