The box was opened at one time before it was sold, so technical it is not brand new.

It can also mean that this product had been a floor sample. You usually do save money with open box products. Open Box always come with the full original warranty. The downside of Open Box products is that that sometimes they are slightly scratched. Sometimes they are missing manuals or cables. The fact that something was returned can be a Red Flag that there was something about it that someone else did not like. That is not always the situation. My son is very happy with the Open Box price he got with his iPad Mini. He was able to get the unit plus the case for the same price for which he would have been able to only buy the unit.
