Good question. The laptop has a cooling fan built in. It also has a feature called HP CoolSense which adjusts the fan speed based on your use to prevent overheating. I hope this helps.

Fan and passive cooling via the case metal. It gets hot as a firecracker. It is not a good cooling design.
