  • QuestionIs this laptop suitable for students and also social websites?

    Asked by AbleEquipt.

    • Answer It is "suitable", but I wouldn't recommend it for serious students. The number one concern for students (including myself) is the quality of the machines KEYBOARD and Mouse. Don't listen to anyone that tries to sell you on a its performance features before its ergonomics. After spending 200+ hours dependent on a piece of technology you better hope its comfortable. And you wont learn that within the return window. I've owned this Yogo, an HP Spectre, and average Toshiba and a Retina Macbook Pro (using right now). And Lenovo's keyboards are not suitable for typing 2,000 word essays, they are hard, less responsive and loud clicky. The laptops shape and material isn't conducive to dedicated long term palm resting and high word per minute operation rather its suitable for occasional finger typing. For that you definitely need a 15 inch screen and soft aluminum body without sharp corners, no compromises trust me. Its mouse touchpad is very mediocre consumer grade in terms of sensitivity and surface feel, and until you use an apple laptop with Force touch technology you will understand how seriously professionals take a good trackpad especially for Adobe projects, MATLAB, CAD, or any mouse precision dependent operation. Also any and I mean any laptop can handle social websites. For 10+ open tab browsing on chrome/firefox this laptop and its ilk are required for no lag browsing experience. This Yogo i believe has 8gm ram and at least an intel i5 cpu which is what i consider requirement for suitable website surfing, consider how data heavy modern social websites are with their video graphics, hd pictures, widgets, and live streaming. Plus it is especially suitable since its touchscreen and noone wants to get tired mouse pointer hands when theyre trying to entertain themselves. But actually i would much rather recommend a tablet for social sites anyways, maybe in addition. I say this because their is more reading involved like reading twitter pages etc, and for that you want to be able to scroll with ease and be portable and relaxed posture which means any device over 1.5 pounds and screen larger than 13inch is too unwieldly for say walking and reading, or laying down, passing the device between hands or carrying it with you while you run errands. Most people just use their smartphone anyways since its always on them. AND they should for one very important reasons, smartphones have app stores. Since you mentioned social websites, understand that no windows machine be it HP Spectre, Lenovo Yogo, Dell XPS or Microsoft Surface, none of them have a true ecosystem for apps like tablets ie: Apple iPad, Amazon Kindle, Google Android Chromebook, Samsung galaxy tab etc. Go for these if social and entertainment is important to you, this way you future proof your purchase seeing as the popular sites you know of are trending to provide more features and redesign themselves more suited to app users than desktop users. Tablets have gyroscopes for tilting, better microphones for voice assistants, biometric touch for administration, dual face cameras for scanning and recognition and gps for tracking. All in all, I must emphasize that the 360 technology is less impressive once you actually own it and use it for a while, its not overrated just not particularly useful compared to a dedicated 0.9lb tablet or dedicated 2.5 lb laptop workstation. This yoga doesnt do either very well. Its a novel concept but i am dubious will catch on. I still use my HP Spectre x360 which is my relief workstation when my hands get tired I use it as a touchscreen and I never owned a tablet so its a close replacement when traveling. I consider the Yoga an affordable HP Spectre, which isnt even a bad thing because you should know that HP laptops depreciate more than 60% after a year beyond release date. I paid 1,300 for it in september and though its still sold for the same, its resale value is $600. And believe me THERE IS NOT A SINGLE COMPUTER that retains its looks, performance and relevance after a year of real use EXCEPT FOR apple products. Just look at the resale market for 2012 macbooks, that still cost twice as much as this Yoga. So I would recommend this Yoga as the budget and value conscious choice over an brand new full price HP Spectre or Microsoft Surface if you intend keep up with the times. Otherwise buy a tablet for social/entertainment and buy a Macbook for student work. But on second thought DON'T BUY a Macbook for a underachieving student. Its cant really be appreciated unless you are career minded and exploring. The price really isn't worth it if you arent going to put serious hours into it. If you have a B-student that tries hard I can guarantee they'll get A's with a macbook. And paradoxically, the average students really needs less technology to distract them these days.

  • QuestionThe description says purple but the picture shows white. Which is it? Do I have to but the $230 HP - Stream 14 Laptop just to get in in white?

    Asked by TrillAG.

    • Answer It's purple. I ordered this last month, descriptions showed and picture also showed me white but i got purple(not good one). I called best buy customer service, they said "we will get back to you in 24-48 hours. I called after 48 hours and they asked me to return the product if you don't want, we don't know why it is showing like that. This was the answer they gave me. I took the laptop to near by store and explained the whole situation and they said we can't do anything return the product we will refund you. Poor customer service, poor website maintenance.

  • QuestionCan this laptop work without wifi?

    Asked by Caterpillar.

    • Answer Hello, I see that you are interested in knowing if the HP Stream 14 will be able to work without wifi. If you are looking to connect to the internet without wifi, you will have to hard wire the HP Stream to your modem, or connect to a hotspot. In other words yes, there are ways to access the internet using the HP Stream without wifi. You can also use the HP Stream without being connected to the internet at all if you are just trying to do simple task like typing a paper, printing documents saved on your computer etc. I hope that answered your question.
