This and all Android Wear based watches I've seen so far are dependent on being connected to a phone either through bluetooth or wifi. If you're looking for something with built-in connectivity you should have a look at the Samsung Gear S2 which has 3G variation (you can tell by the provider being listed in the description ex. Verizon/AT&T). Although if you have an iPhone I'm not sure they have any compatibility outside of Android and does need to be paired with an Android based phone before it will work on it's own according to Samsung. These watches also run Tizen not Android Wear so I would check it out in a Best Buy at the Samsung store prior to buying.
