You most certainly can. You can choose auto replies, your voice, and you can write your own messages on a tiny full keyboard.

To reply to texts, you have the option of Quick Reply messages, a mic for speech-to-text, or you can type on the onscreen keypad. I prefer the keypad. Even though it's fairly small, Swype works on it and it's pretty accurate.
