Overall Good value smartwatch

I have been waiting for a good smartwatch which is good value for the price and i finally brought this (Huawei - Watch 2 Carbon Black) from BestBuy in July for $219 on sale . For that price i am happy with the features if has , but I would not recommend to buy it for $299 , if you are in market then wait till Thanksgiving and it could go below $180. That being said i needed something right now so i brought this in BestBuy as soon as i saw it in sale and used all my BestBuy rewards as well so overall i got a good deal.
I am writing this review after using it for a month . Below is summary of my likes , dislikes and suggestion for next version.
Likes:
Heart rate monitor - Continuous HR monitor
Inactivity remainder - I like the inactivity remainder which it does if i am sitting continuously for one hour
Bluetooth - Connection maintains really good and range is good as well
NFC - I pay using watch
GPS - Awesome when running , puts my track on the map
Health app - It gives recovery time which i like a lot
Step counter - its accurate
Elevation count – yes it does this I was surprised , tested this many times in stairs and also in park while walking into higher elevation.
Display - its crisp
Waterproof - i take care of the electronics really well but this one of reason i awaited for a watch which is reasonable price and has waterproof because watch is something I wear it which can’t be protected like phone.
Battery life - It last 1 day for sure and but if the gesture features are disabled then it would last for 2 days . Everyday i have at least 35 to 40% left.
Android wear 2.0 - Like it very much
Dislikes:
Watch Strap - I replaced it in a week , the strap it came with was very low quality it was not good
Screen size - Wish it was 1.3 inch because 1.2 is small
Strap size - I wish it was 22mm strap as well similar to the classic version
Software lag - I think it not fully optimized , sometimes it lags to load the android pay or ok google .
Thinness - Wish it was 2 mm less think
Workout modes – Wish it had more workout modes
No sim option - US version does not have this but international does , not sure why. This could have been a big selling point
Price - Please make the next version release with a reasonable price , why release it for $299 and go on sale rather introduce it at $199 and make it more affordable so it is in everyone's wrist.
Suggestion for next version:
Heart rate Transmitter - Many smartwatches are introduced targeting the people with active life and who hits the gym often but missing a very good and key feature. Heart rate transmitter will be very very useful feature and could work with every single cardio machines out there in gym. Almost all treadmill , elliptical , stairs and bicycle machines has the Heart rate based mode which can be used with the smartwatch if it does the Heart rate transmission.
Work out details on Web - There is no way to see my work out details on web , i hope Huawei develops something like Google fit or pass the data to google fit.
I will buy the next version if it addresses all my dislikes and my suggestion.

I recently purchased a Samsung S8+ and I needed to find a watch that was compatible with Android Wear. After comparing the specs between Huawei Watch 2 and Samsung Gear S3, I didn't see enough value in the Gear S3 so I purchased the Huawei Watch 2. This watch is rather large and clunky. Huawei didn't design their own app with many functions. It records heart rate and exercises, but the heart rate sensor is inaccurate so its not useful for workouts. I can go to high intensity cardio and it will show up as a warm up. The heart rate sensor is delayed so you can't see your heart rate during a workout. It lags by about 15 seconds. On top of that, the battery life is much shorter than 2 days. I'm lucky if i get a day and a half and that's without using all the functions of the watch. Another issue I have with the watch is that it doesn't natively monitor your sleep. You have to download a 3rd party app and turn on the app on the phone and let it communicate with your watch via bluetooth while you sleep. What's good about the watch are the smartwatch functions like receiving text messages, phone calls, and Android Pay, but if I wanted a smartwatch then I wouldn't be wearing this huge plastic watch.

Dear customer,
It is so bad to hear that you did not have a good experience with your Huawei Watch 2.
We understand that this issue can be really frustrating, we kindly ask you to follow the next suggestions in order to improve the performance of your Huawei Watch 2.
In order to improve the performance of the heart rate function, we kindly ask you to make sure that the Huawei Watch 2 fits comfortably around your wrist. Your heart rate data may be affected if you wear your watch too tight or loose.
Check whether the rapid power consumption is caused by a third-party app.
In the Android Wear app, touch the settings icon to open the settings screen. Under Device settings, select the connected HUAWEI WATCH 2, and then touch Watch battery to check detailed battery statistics.
If there are other third-party apps consuming a lot of power in the background, but you never or rarely use them, it is recommended that you uninstall these apps.
Check whether Package Installer or Android System is at the top of the Android Wear app power consumption list. If so, it could be that the rapid power consumption is caused by a rare software issue. Please restart the watch to fix the issue. Please also update your watch's software at the next available version release, as this will also fix such issues.
Check whether the watch has undergone heavy use. The watch's standby time will be reduced in respect to how much it is used. The following situations may result in reduced battery life:
Prolonged use of the watch to play music or make calls.
Prolonged use of an exercise or map navigation app.
Prolonged use of power-intensive third-party apps, such as Google Fit or Runtastic.
Frequent message notifications.
If you have any other issues or if the issues persists we kindly ask you to give us a call to, 888.548.2934, one of our representatives will be more than glad to assists you with this issue.

Far better than professional reviews state

First let's get this out of the way: is the gear 3 frontier better? Well, maybe, but not for everyone.
After getting a new Samsung Galaxy S8 I decided to pair it with a gear 3. The Gear was uncomfortable and I couldn't help but feel I was missing out on Android Wear 2.0 by using tizen. So I switched to the Huawei Watch 2.
The Watch 2 is incredibly light and comfortable. Android Wear 2.0 is snappy and convenient. It has more AVAILABLE storage than the S3, because after tizen S3 only had 1.6 GB available of the advertised 4!
The play store is right on your wrist, you can download apps and faces directly to the watch. Google Fit is very useful. "Okay Google" from my watch bypasses the not yet ready Bixby on the S8 and my favorites: Google music and Google maps right on the wrist.
I could go on about how surprised and satisfied I am with this light, comfortable and capable watch, but I'll end with this: yes like so many online reviews state, the included band seems cheap and makes the watch look clunky... But check out how nice it looks with a replacement 20mm band.

(3 Year Review) Great watch with a defective lug (part where strap attaches). The lug broke after a year of use, fortunately I it was still under warranty and Huawei replaced the watch. The second one suffered the same fate after about a year again! but at that point the warranty had run out so Huawei said they will not replace the watch, I super glued the part and has lasted about a year, but looks like it will not last for another 6 months, the rubber on the strap is starting to be brittle due to the glue. The watch is still in great working condition but with one lug broken the watch is now a brick, pretty useless. There a many reviews online complaining of the same defect.

Plastic body cracks at the wrist pin location. The wristband cannot attach to the watch. This apparently is a common problem. Repair costs are more than watch. It was worn on a daily basis for just over a year. Other than this, the watch was great!

The watch was a good buy with BestBuy discount. Was $300, but down to $195. I used Shopsmarter and got extra 10% cash back. It does a good job tracking activities. Runs native Android Wear (with announced upgrade to Android O in the near future). Not even close to being sophisticated as Apple Watch, but neither is the price. I like it for looking like a watch, being very light, Android pay, good GPS signal. Wish it was faster in response, fully waterproof and even better (though very decent) screen.

Best smart watch I've owned
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
I have owned several smart watches over the last few years and this is the first one that has stayed in my daily rotation.
The battery life is quite acceptable at me, and I often go home from work with more than 50% left after fairly heavy ussage all day. A quick hour on the charger and it's back up to 100%.
The fitness aspect of it is much more accurate than what I have had in other watches. And the notifications are great.
The fact that I can be more than 100 feet from my desk and still answer/make calls without my phone is what impresees me most. The range of the Bluetooth is MUCH further than any of my other watches.
I am VERY disappointed that Best Buy has decided to discontinue selling Huawei products. My family has been using Huawei phones for over three years now and they too are incredible.
Hopefully Huawei will figure out a way to keep it's US customers that are loyal and appreciative of their products!

being a fan of android i wanted to get my first android wear watch and after doing alot of research i settled on the HUAWEI WATCH 2. the design is very nice (sporty, lightweight & strong) with it having the option to buy replacement bands to change it to fit my style is great.it also does not suffer from the dreaded (flat tire) screen that a lot of android wear smart watches have.the display on the device is great, the watch face i currently use looks awesome (pip-boy 300). it is also fututre proof since unlike a lot of android wear watches the HUAWEI WATCH 2 will be getting the ANDROID WEAR 8.0 update, while others will not and will be stuck using ANDROID WEAR 2.0. battery life is great out the box,i would get a whole days use out of it, and after adjusting the settings to my liking i am able to get two days use out of it now.

This is a nice looking watch with (relatively speaking) good battery life.
With Android Wear 2.0 you have full access to fitness tracking, multiple watch faces, text messages, phone calls, alerts and many other features. I was actually able to get two and a half days of use before the battery finally died. It also charges very quickly, reaching 100% in less than an hour with the supplied charger, so the down time is minimal.
You can download a third-party app (I used Facer) for access to additional watch faces and even create your own customer face.
As someone who previously didn't wear a watch, the weight of this one took a few days to get used to but now I hardly think about it unless I'm using it.

The watch has the 'sporty' design. I am a casual dresser. I mainly use the watch for the gym and notifications. So I'll mainly review the watch as that. I don't know why OEM think anything as 'sporty' has to have a number dial? So yes, it also has one but doesn't really do anything. I guess I did use it once when the watch face had a second hand. I think the Samsung Gear looks a lot nicer but it doesn't run Android Wear.
The two buttons on the side, the top opens apps and the second can be programed for whatever you want. The band is fine for what it is. It is fine for gym and sweating. Battery life is pretty decent. At 100% and and long day of hiking with app/gps on by the end of the day it was about 35%. At 100% and 2hr workout with heart rate monitor and music about 77%.
It also charges fairly quickly with the provided proprietary charger. They have improved it from the first generation where it clicks into place instead of magnetic.
Overall, it does what I wanted to do. Yeah, it isn't as sleek as others but as a casual watch for gym and daily life it works just fine.

Battery life is more than acceptable, generally always get 2 whole days. Android Pay feature is awesome. I ride a motorcycle wherever the weather allows and it's nice being able to pay for stuff without having to dig my wallet out of my jacket. I like that I'm not worried about beating it up like my Apple Watch. This is more for adventuring and outdoor living where Apple Watch is more for the office, although this blends in enough there as well. Having Google maps access is pretty sweet as well. When walking around a city on vacation in the way to find some new dining adventure I can get my navigation while phone is tucked away. Looks good, feels good, performs good too. Great watch. Only things I would like is a larger display, it's a little on the small side for me, and get rid of the seconds on the bezel. Why seconds when it's designed more for digital readout. Give me a larger display face and I'll go five stars.

Great quality and looks and feels amazing. Heavy construction. Some people says it is some how large, but i thing it is just right and I do not have a large wrist. The screen looks beautiful. The leather of the strap is really good quality. Maybe this is not that important but the case it came in is very well made.
I pair my with my LG V10 and I do not know if is a problem with Google Fit or the compatibility with the watch or phone but the heart rate monitor does no works with Google Fit app. But it works really well with LG Health app. The charger is magnetic and have some pins at the back so you have to make sure you align them the right way.You must have in to account that this watch is bound by Android Wear software and that the software needs some refinement, but it should get better over time.

This is my third smartwatch with the first being a Sony and my last one a Motorola.
It is a definite upgrade from both, but not a dramatic upgrade from the Motorola v2 this replaced. If you have a gen 2 Motorola, this isn't much of an upgrade in features and speed.
NFC is neat, but Google pay just isn't in enough stores to make it useful.
The GPS and the fitness app is getting close to what my old Polar watches had for features with a fitness test to determine your zones, or if you know them, you can manually set them. Very nice.
Bluetooth range is amazing for a watch. Easily double that of my Motorola if not more. Pop in Bluetooth headphones and load up some music, and this is a perfect running companion.
Androidwear 2.0 is not much of an upgrade however, so don't rush out to get one because of that. Mighty Google is bored of watches because 2.0 has nothing of value over 1.0...
I am getting excellent battery life with it hitting my charger each night with at least 60% battery left...and I use it alot throughout the day. If you are frugal on the use, 2 days on a charge is very possible.

The Huawei watch 2 is a really good sport watch that doubles as a smart watch. I was using a Fitbit surge before switching and couldn't be happier. I do a lot of mountain biking and love the built-in gps as well as the heart rate monitor. I also really enjoy the the bright screen which I've had no problem using in sunlight. With Android Wear 2.0 you get all the smart features, including taking calls right on the wrist which I thought would be weird but I've taken them while riding and it has been great; the caller couldn't even tell I was using my watch instead of the handset in my backpack. I haven't yet used the NFC for payment because I always forget it's there. One of the big complaints I saw online before my purchase was that the strap was uncomfortable but I completely disagree. To me it feels just like my old Fitbit surge but smaller. The watch doesn't have built in LTE which doesn't bother me at all and probably allows it such a long battery life (1½-2 days) on normal fiction or there are two different battery saving mode to extend the life even further. The only down side I can think of is that you can't swim with the watch. It is water resistant, which is great because I get it dirty a lot and I just wanted it off, but it would be nice to just be able to jump into the lake or river and not have to worry about it. Other than that it is amazing. Totally worth the purchase.

I have tried this watch after buying and returning the LG Watch Sport. I use an Android phone (Moto G4) so I was looking for AndroidWear watches that would be the most compatible with it. The LG Watch Sport had LTE in it, which I assumed was in the Huawei Watch based on my initial research of the watch only to find out afterwards they dropped it on the American version. I use AT&T prepaid which currently doesn't support it, so it wasn't as big of a deal for me but it may be a big deal to others. I like the design of the LG Watch Sport better as well with it's cleaner design and larger watch face but that watch in particular was too heavy to wear all day, with a steel body and b/c the antenna was in the strap it was a thicker and more uncomfortable strap. I'm happy to report that the Huawei Watch is much lighter and the band has a better elasticity to it, making it much more comfortable to wear, which is really important if you want to be able to use it all day. Battery life is about 2 days on it with light usage.
Overall I think the watch is pretty good. I wish the design was a little less tactical looking and that AndroidWear (and all smart watches in general) were a little more useful. Notifications are great but I'd like more functionality in general.
Recommendation is really dependent on your situation. Unless you're specifically looking for a watch with AndoridWear, no LTE but has GPS, and like the design it's probably a miss.
