Some of this will depend on your particular gaming setup, but my wife uses this headset and loves it. The mic does need to be at your mouth in order for others to hear you but the arm does swivel up and can be bent away for when you don't want to be easily heard. Having used BT headsets for gaming while traveling I can say my experience has been that these types of gaming headsets are generally superior to BT. Hope that helps.
