The remote has a very SHORT range. It has to be aimed at a very specific spot. Right above the tower where the holes for ventilation are at. Aim the controller straight down from up top. I had the same issue as you initially, it is a little annoying to have to do it that way but it seemed to work for me. I will be posting a picture later when I am home to show you where to aim it.
