“whenever i plug in my headphones that have a microphone with a split wire connector with a slot for the audio and mic i can hear but my microphone doesn't record my voice. i have tried plugging in front and gpu slots. i tried with different devices. help”

Try plugging it in on top of the PC I had the same issue and then go to sound and select the headset if that don't work troubleshoot your headset.
