Everything on the computer is installed and set up to be working from the factory, so it's either something simple like plugging things in wrong or having something turned off on your system or hardware. Let's assume first that it isn't the PC. Use Windows Media player to play a tune that will give you steady sound so that you can test for the problem. Once you start the song, check the speaker icon at the lower right hand corner of your screen--left click on it and make sure your sound is on and turned up. If not, you will have to go to your Control Panel and turn things on there. Assuming it is turned on, since that is default, then plug your speaker plug into the light green receptacle on the rear of the computer. Hopefully, your plugs on your headphones are color coded. The one with black in the plug should be for sound. If you hear nothing, make sure that your sound is turned up on your headphones. Most headphones have their own volume control on the wire or the phones themselves. If still no sound, then try the other plug in the light green receptacle the same way. If still no sound, and the computer shows sound on at the icon, you may have defective headphones. Again, if you click the icon and it doesn't show turned on (which I actually believe the icon will show with a red circle and line through it if not turned on), then type "Control" in your search box in the lower left hand corner. It will bring up access to your control panel, so click on that and then go to "Sound." Make sure the Realtek sound is turned on. If your headphones aren't showing, then they are plugged in wrong, defective, or there is a problem with the driver or sound card on the computer. If you are unable to get sound doing all this, I would take the tower back to have it checked at the store where they can test everything out, or try another set of speakers or headphones, first.
