• Yes, it charges my Samsung phone very nicely. I have my clock on the nightstand next to my bed so my phone is within easy reach.

• I believe anything using or compatible with Qi standard charging (including the new iPhones 8/X) will work fine. I use an S8 and am quite happy with it.
