• YES. It lights up with playing music, or you can turn it off, dim the numbers, etc. Generally if not playing music with it, it's not lit up.

• Yes the display on the front and the colors both have buttons that adjust them to go completely dark. You can also dim to various levels both the display and the colors. Great clock!
