• No, It does not run on batteries. The battery back up is to keep settings memory when the power goes out.

• No. This undercounter stereo will not operate using the batteries.This unit accepts 2 aaa batteries but they only work to retain clock and radio presets when power is out..which is very helpful because it can take a while to reprogram but,. sadly no electric means no radio....good sound with electric tho.. hope this answer was helpful..
