“How important is the 12" clearance above the top of the microwave? As I look at all the pictures of microwave ovens on the countertop it appears many do not have any way near that much clearance. Thanks for your response.”

If it’s on the specs, I imagine there is a reason. Mine does not have that much clearance, but at the price I am taking the great leap of faith.
