It is not normal for the top of the Insignia™ 1.1 Cu. Ft. Countertop Microwave to become hot when it is not in use. If this happens, it could be due to a nearby heat source, such as a stove or oven, causing the microwave to absorb external heat. Another possibility is poor ventilation—if the microwave is placed in a tight space or the vents are blocked, heat can build up even when the unit is idle. In some cases, an internal electrical issue might be the cause, which would require professional inspection. If the microwave was recently used, a bit of residual warmth is expected, but it should cool down quickly. If the top remains hot consistently while not in use, it’s best to unplug the unit and contact our Insignia customer support for assistance. Ivy | Insignia Support
