Thank you for your inquiry! The Insignia™ 1.1 Cu. Ft. Countertop Microwave typically emits five beeps at the end of its cooking cycle. These beeps serve as an audible alert to let you know the cycle has finished and it's safe to open the door. While some microwaves may beep six times or more, five beeps is within the normal range and is not unusual. These end-of-cycle beeps are not specifically a safety mechanism to protect against microwave radiation—modern microwaves are already designed with shielding and door interlocks to prevent any exposure. Instead, the beeping is simply a user-friendly feature to ensure you don’t forget your food or open the door prematurely. Keith | Insignia Support
