I believe so because in the two years we have owned it, it has not needed to be defrosted. We did, however, have to de-ice the evaporator fan in the freezer recently. We figured out that was the problem because it started making noise and that noise stopped whenever the refrigerator door was opened. If you're handy, it's not a big or time-consuming job. After we did this, the refrigerator was super quiet again.
