Is this an active or passive cable? null

IMHO, this is a 'passive' cable and well made. It should work fine if your DisplayPort is version 1.3 or higher. Sometimes known as 'Dual Mode' or 'DP++'. My DisplayPort was version 1.2 (older) and this cable did not work for me. I had to get an 'Active' cable adapter which has a small circuit board (1.5"x1.5"x0.5") on the end of it which converts the signal from DisplayPort to HDMI. That worked on my version 1.2. This cable did not.
