Instruction manual says it will run for 3 continuous minutes, and this shredder does have a built-in overheat indicator light. However, if you frequently squirt lubricant into the slot like I do for my mass shredding, you can easily get 10-15 minutes or more of shredding time. Because this shredder model does not have any ventilation holes facing outside, the metal machinery does get hot. When you are finished shredding, use the handle to quickly pull off the top unit and lay it on its side for 10 minutes to cool down.

if you keep the number of sheets to a minimum like 2 to 3 I have never seen it overheat and I used it for about 1.5 hours.

The duty cycle is: 3 mins ON / 30 mins OFF. When the overheat indicator is lit, please let your shredder cool at least 30 minutes. When the indicator turns off, you can use your shredder again.

How much paper will the shredder shred without the shredder being dead? The shredder will shred as much paper as the shredder will shred without the motor being shred. Once the motor is shred, the shredder won't shred because the shredder is dead. If you ask how much shred you can shred to roll in your paper instead. I've no clue how much shred the shredder can shred without the shredder motor going dead. The manual says the duty cycle is 3 minutes on, 30 minutes off but it seems to last longer if you don't shred the max of 10 sheets at a time.
