“What is the rev option? When I switch it to this it turns in but will not shred papers and the green light goes off.”

If I understand your question correctly that would be reverse mode. It makes the shredder go backwards in case something gets stuck. It will not shred in that position. Push the switch all the way to the left for normal shredding. The green light will go on and it will operate when you put paper into it.

It is supposed to reverse the shredder in case of a paper jam. Ours quit on the first unit after one year.

"Rev" stands for reverse to clear jams.
