There may be cut paper or paper dust in the sensor that triggers when paper is inserted. A can of compressed air or a vacuum might help to clear that. A lot of the sensors are optical and cut paper/paper dust can cover them. If a mechanical sensor, then the shredded paper can sometimes hold the sensor where it thinks there is paper inserted.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The INSIGNIA NS-PS10CC shredder has an ON OFF slider switch which lights up a GREEN LIGHT, to show when it is moved to the FORWARD MODE, (which accepts items to shred). The GREEN LIGHT goes out when the switch is moved to REVERSE, (which will send a stuck item back out). If you lift the SHREDDING HEAD off the bucket, a RED LIGHT will light up and stops shining, only when you put the SHREDDING HEAD back into place on the bucket. The shredder does not physically run when the GREEN LIGHT is turned on. It sits, silently, (nothing moving) waiting for something to be inserted to shred. YOU MUST TURN THE SLIDER SWITCH TO "OFF" POSITION, TO HAVE THE SHREDDER TOTALLY TURNED OFF, and then the GREEN LIGHT will no longer shine.
