“Does the lid close on it's own or do you touch it? I'd like to use this in a child care situation but have to have a completely NON Touch can for diapers.”

Completely non touch operation. Only time you would need to touch is if you wanted to keep lid open for an extended amount of time & of course when you changing out the bag.

As long as the batteries are charged, the lid will open and close on it's own without any touching required.
