I pulled up to he manual and it doesn't actually state temperature needs. It does say to locate it away from heat sources. The only caveat about low temps is "Extremely cold temperatured may prevent the freezer from performing properly." Sorry I can't be if more help. I thought that a garage was perfectly fine but I am not seeing that in print.
